Bird of the Day - Robin (again!)

Well, there is a greedy little robin living in our wildlife garden! Not only is he hogging all the bird treats we put on the table, but he is so cute that he keeps getting picked as the bird of the day for birdwatching club!

Also spotted this week were two woodpigeons, two blackbirds, a blue tit and a wren - not bad for only 20 minutes. It looks like a few birds have made their home in amongst the branches that were cut down on gardening morning so we decided to leave them there for the birds.

I decided to add a photo of a wren even though it was not BOTD - see if you see one in the wildlife garden and let me know.

Until next time,

Mrs Longmoor

B is for Biodiversity

This term we'll be talking about biodiversity.  It's a big word that means looking after everything in our world.  All of nature, trees, plants and animals are linked together like pieces in a jigsaw puzzle.  Each piece needs every other piece to survive. Next time you see a Year Two pupil, ask them about biodiversity.  They've been learning all about the rainforest.  The rain forests of South America, Africa and Asia are the lungs of our planet and help us stay alive.  We need to look after all the plants, insects and people who live there.....and right here.

Bird of the Day - Robin

Our wildlife garden birds have definitely missed us over the Easter holidays as all the seed feeders were empty so our main job today was to refill them all and tidy up. I had two kind helpers from Class 5 who did a great job. Within a minute, a robin made two visits to the bird table, earning himself the coverted title of Bird of the Day! Also spotted were a pair of blackbirds. I was very pleased to hear from the children about the birds that visit their gardens at home, including to make their nests there - hopefully our nest box at school will be up and working soon. Until next week,
